COLE MARTIN BIO & TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

A native of the Houston area, Cole Martin graduated from the Golf Academy of America (formerly San Diego Golf Academy) in 2009 with a degree in golf course operations as well as certifications in several fields including advanced teaching. During this time He not only absorbed the principles of the golf swing, but gained exposure to exciting new developments in swing analysis such as motion capture technology, dynamic balance analysis, ball launch reading, and of course video swing analysis.  Having studied under PGA professionals from across the country, and shared face time with some very influential Instructors and players Including Todd Sones (Golf Digest Top 50 instructor), Mike Bender (Golf Digest Top 50 Instructor & personal coach to Masters champion Zach Johnson), and Bobby Clampett (Former PGA Tour Pro and CBS Analyst), Cole has built his own teaching style and philosophy. This philosophy recognizes a balance between the advance of technology in golf instruction and the foundation of golfing fundamentals. Cole became the Teaching Professional at Kingwood Cove in May of 2010, and has since implemented Video Swing Analysis for not only the full swing but short game as well.

Teaching Philosophy

My Teaching Philosophy is constructed around the principle that the golf swing must be tailored to fit the needs and abilities of each individual golfer. With this in mind, it is important to embrace that the best golf swing is one that produces the most good shots. While there are a number of fundamentals I believe create a foundation for a consistent, effective golf swing, a player’s swing must be there own. And in my teaching I strive to help my students engrain these fundamentals. Content however, is only half the value of a good lesson. The context in which that content is delivered is paramount to the retention and eventual practice of the information. This is why I have committed time and effort in studying the different ways that individuals learn, and are able to use information they receive. Recognizing the most effective way to engage each student (visually, kinesthetically… ect.) I feel allows the student to learn more efficiently and with less frustration, which in turn makes for a more enjoyable lesson and overall golfing experience. I realize that building and maintaining a serviceable golf game can be a frustrating venture, but I believe that by setting goals, and systematically tackling those goals, a lot of stress can be eliminated, allowing larger goals to be achieved. And it is through these ideals I hope to accomplish my goal of helping people to better enjoy the game of golf.
